Foster Care Agency Services:
The call for committed, caring foster families is great in communities across California. Foster families are a part of our professional foster care team, fully supported by our staff in a close working relationship, providing foster children with the education, stability, skills and support they need to succeed in the world as adults. Our social workers recognize and respond to the individual needs of each child and support each family with additional mental health, educational, recreational and treatment resources. All of our foster parents are certified by Families For Children to provide foster care and accept children placed through our agency.
We refer to our foster families as "professional parents", these families care for abused and neglected children who can be best helped in a family setting, augmented by professional services. What is a Resource Family Agency and RFA?
While many are familiar with the terms Foster Care and Adoption Agency, Resource Family Agency may be a new and unfamiliar term. Introduced in 2017 by the State of California, the Resource Family Approval Program (RFA) is a new family-friendly and child-centered caregiver approval process that combines elements of the current Foster Parent licensing, and approvals for Adoptive families. RFA regulations effectively combine and replaces both these processes. A Resource Family Agency is licensed by the State of California to perform these services.
Resource Family Approval Program (RFA):
-
Is streamlined and eliminates the duplication of existing processes.
-
Unifies approval standards for all caregivers, regardless of the child's case plan.
-
Includes a comprehensive psychosocial assessment, home environment check, and training for all families, including relatives.
-
Prepares families to better meet the needs of vulnerable children in the foster care system.
-
Allows seamless transition to permanency (adoption).
-
Purpose is to place children, youth and young adults with families that can provide a lifelong connection by determining permanency approval upfront.
-
Is a streamlined process that includes one application, one background check and a combined home environment and permanency assessment.
